Historique :	"L’abbé de Sauvages (1710-1795), se consacra aux sciences, notamment naturalistes. Pensionnaire de l’Académie des Sciences, il fréquente le Jardin du Roy, s’occupe également de ranger les collections du cabinet du roy, les Encyclopédistes lui proposent même de traiter certains sujets (le mûrier, les vers à soie notamment) et s'intéressa de près à la sériciculture afin d’en améliorer les techniques (il adapte le thermomètre de Réaumur à l’élevage des vers à soie ; c’est le « réglé » de « Sauvages » ). Son œuvre de lexicographe est particulièrement célèbre : son Dictionnaire Languedocien-français (paru en 1756, puis augmenté en 1785) fait partie des premiers dictionnaires et lexiques imprimés de la langue occitane, antérieurs au Dictionnaire provençal-français du docteur Honnorat (1846-1847) puis du grand-oeuvre de Frédéric Mistral, le Trésor du Félibrige, ""embrassant les divers dialectes de la langue d'oc moderne"" (1879-1886)."
