Description :	La Vierge assise sur les rochers du Golgotha, tient le corps de son fils mort sur ses genoux et elle esquisse du bras gauche un geste qui tend à indiquer au monde sa douleur mais aussi à présenter son fils défunt.

Historique :	Groupe sculpté exécuté par la fabrique toulousaine Virebent frères et fils au cours de la 2e moitié du 19e siècle. Cette maison a été fondée en 1830, elle a précédé la célèbre maison Giscard fondée en 1855. Les frères Virebent sont à l'origine de l'invention de la plinthotomie en 1831, procédé associant l'usage de presses et d'emporte-pièces qui autorise la production en grande série de briques puis de décors de jardins et de façade. Auguste Virebent va ensuite étendre cette technique à la production en grand nombre de statues, bas-reliefs, autels, etc, à partir d'un seul modèle, en ajoutant l'utilisation des moules à pièces à ces premières techniques. Une Piéta similaire est conservée dans l'église de Cuxac-d'Aude.
